What Is Product Engineering And Manufacturing?
Product engineering and manufacturing is the work of taking a product that already exists, in full or in part, and engineering it so it can be manufactured reliably in a new facility. It differs from product development in one important way: you are not starting from an idea or a blank requirement. You already have a product, a design, or at least a working understanding of one; what you need is for that design to be reviewed, corrected where necessary, and proven on a production line you can trust.
Companies moving production out of China often discover that the design they thought they owned was never actually complete. Schematics are missing revisions, mechanical drawings do not match the parts on the shelf, and bills of materials depend on suppliers who will not sell outside their own factory. None of this is visible until someone tries to manufacture the product elsewhere.

How A Product Engineering Project Works With Europhils
1. Design and documentation audit: You share what exists, whether that is complete design files or an assembled product to work from, and we map what is present and what is missing.
2. Manufacturability review: Every part and process is assessed against our own production capability, and improvement opportunities are identified.
3. Engineering proposal: Recommended changes to components, mechanical design or PCB layout are presented and agreed with you before any redesign begins.
4. Redesign and documentation: Agreed changes are implemented, and complete design documentation is produced and handed to you as it develops.
5. Component and BOM qualification: Re-sourced components are qualified and the bill of materials is finalised.
6. Tooling and process setup: Where mechanical parts have changed, tooling is designed and built in our own toolroom.
7. Prototype and validation build: The re-engineered design is built and tested on our own lines, and results are measured against the original specification.
8. Sample approval: Reference samples are agreed with you, defining the standard for production parts.
9. Transfer to production: The validated design moves directly into production within the same facility, with full documentation retained and owned by you.
